Are you invisible on GTalk?

Do you like to remain invisible on GTalk or any IM service? Do you decide who you talk to & when?

Here are my thoughts for you. Just like the way you decide, who to talk to by remaining invisible, I am going to decide whether to respond to your chat ping or not.

Once in a while u r in invisible mode, I can understand, but everyday? If you don't want other's to ping you as you are busy, set the busy status & politely tell ppl, you will get back to them. If you have a pesky friend on the list delete / block him or her.

Note: This post is not for any one person but in general to all my invisible friends.

Grounding the Apple plug!

When Apple ships their products to India I wonder why they cannot provide 3 pin India compatible plug?

Anyways, here comes the Indian jugaad to rescue! I took one pin of a broken 3 pin adapter & plugged it into another 3 pin international converter adapter. This pin can be aligned to coincide with the earthing or grounding plate of the plug provided by Apple. See attached photos for better understanding.

I deleted my Facebook account

Reaction 1:
Me : "I am no more active on Facebook & Google+, I deleted my account"
Other person : "What? Really? Why?"
Me : "Generally, no reason!"

And then suddenly you can feel the tone of the voice on the other end of the phone changing, to "is this guy alright? He deleted his Facebook account!"

While on the other side, I want to go 'Ha ha ha…' in the true evil style, something like the way Joker laughs

Reaction 2:

Me : "I am no more active on Facebook & Google+, I deleted my account"
Other person : "Really, hmm ok!"

and I am relieved I don't have to explain to that person why I took that 'extreme' step!

Reaction 3:

Me : "I am no more active on Facebook & Google+, I deleted my account"
Other person : "oh, even I was thinking, but… then I thought, I have connected with so many of my old friends … blah.. blah..."

While on the the other end, I go, 'yeh… yeh.. true, but you know… blah blah'

There was no real reason or spicy gossip or story behind me deleting my so called 'social' network account, I just thought I could do with less noise in my life!

Earth hour - I don't understand!

It is march and the day we "celebrate" Earth Hour is here, 26th March. On this day, every body switches off their lights between 08:30 PM and 09:30 PM to protest or show their support against climate change!

What I do not understand is, by switching off lights for one hour for one day in a year, how does it help? It is not just symbolic gesture! I believe such gestures are of no use.

By we switching off power for one hour, the power plants burning coal are not going to halt productions. Nor are they going to burn less coal in that one hour. The amount of coal being burnt is going to be the same. Hence the smoke or deadly gases they produce is going to be the same. In India please note all power plants work at full capacity every single day. We generate much less power than the demand. In order to make some difference, you need t follow Earth Hour on a daily / regular basis.

Follow a few things every day and you will help in making the change.
1. Switch off your electrical appliances when not in use. Keeping them in stand-by mode does not mean switching off, they still consume power
2. Judiciously use water, the more water you use, the more number of times will the water pump be switched on to top-up your over head tanks.
3. Don't keep your cell phones hanging to the wall socket all the time. Remove them from the charger and let them discharge completely before hooking them back up. This way the battery life increases.
4. Make sure your AC is set to ambient temperature. If you over-cool or under-cool, you end up making your AC compressor run more and consume more power.
5. When you run your washing machine, make sure you put in the optimum load. Less load means, you are consuming more than required power, more load means, the motor works harder hence more power consumed.
and many more such small things will help.

Follow this everyday and celebrate Earth Hour / Day every day, rather than one symbolic hour / day.

The Lord As Litigant

The following piece of text in the Times of India (http://goo.gl/YezE) dated 30th October 2010 caught my eye.

"The Lord As Litigant

As the verdict was announced, many were stunned to discover that Bhagwan Sri Ram Virajman too had been a litigant in the case through his “next friend” Deoki Nandan Agarwal. In fact, the court awarded him ownership rights over the disputed site. Can a deity, like a normal human being, fight a legal battle? According to the HC, while Ram Lalla — being a deity — enjoys legal rights, since he is a ‘minor’ he could be represented in court through a guardian or next friend."

Like the article says, I too was stunned that a deity can be represented in the court of law and now I have a few questions, which I would like to hear answers from the readers.

Questions:
1. Does this make way for Hindu's to say, that Lord Ram existed in reality?
2. As taught to us in school that Ramayana, the epic story, was written by a saint Valmiki, was wrong and Ramayana actually is a historical document?
3. Who is the descendant of Lord Ram? Does something like the holy grail, as shown in the english movie, Da Vinci's Code, also exist in India?
4. Did Monkeys, take a reverse gear in evolution after Ramayana? Monkeys could fly, build bridges, etc in Ramayana

5. India has 40Cr. Gods, by giving them a legal status, do we agree that they all existed?

I am really amazed, how a figment of our imagination or the characters from a story get a legal status in India!!

Or is it just a provision in the law to allow people to make money under the name of some god?

I know these questions are kind of stupid, but really, how can "God" or a "Deity" be given a legal status in this country!!

Edit: Ok, looks like Lord Rama does exist in reality, just found his twitter account http://twitter.com/#!/Lord_Ram

Half information as always!

Just received this message from the police.

"TakeĀ  reqd permission to erect Box-Arches. Lets pledge not to pit holes on road. Let celebrate the festival with sense of security and responsibility" CP Pune.

As an ordinary citizen, I don't go digging on roads. But at the same time I can take the effort of calling the authorities of non compliance by some 'mandal'.

As far the msg from the police is concerned, I believe giving contact numbers of authorities will help more than just the awareness message. I know I am not allowed to dig up the road for my convenience.
